East Grinstead Jazz Club presents something a little different this month. 

The MARDI GRAS JAZZBAND‘ will be giving us an evening of energetic New Orleans Traditional Dixieland Jazz.

The Mardi Gras JazzBand was formed in 1977 by Leigh Henson (tpt) and Rob Pearce (tbn), who still front the band over 45 years later, with reed-playing virtuoso John Ellmer joining the band a mere 40 years ago.

The band plays energetic New Orleans Traditional Dixieland Jazz and over the many decades has played throughout the UK and was particularly popular on the French Riviera, including a Christmas and New Year at a swanky hotel in Monaco and a beach party in St Tropez.

The band has not really subscribed to the jazz club circuit, although its individual members make regular appearances at an array of clubs with other bands such as the Golden Eagle, the New Orleans Jazz Bandits, the Peter Rudeforth band, Sarah Spencer’s Transatlantic band, the Vintage Jazz band and the Hot Jazz Vagabonds.
