Step into the joyful, high-energy world of pantomime at our Panto Summer Camp at Chequer Mead Theatre. Over four exciting days, participants will explore the core skills that make panto such a much-loved theatrical tradition – comedy, character, singing, acting and dance – all guided expertly by our very own panto team; East Grinstead Comedy favourite Callum Donnelly, Dame and Director extraordinaire Kevin Gauntlett, and the endlessly talented musical director Dan Warren.
This immersive camp is designed to be creative, supportive and fun, giving young people aged 8 – 14 the chance to build confidence, develop performance skills and work together towards a final sharing for family and friends.
What to Expect
Each day runs from 10:00am – 3:00pm, with a lunch break from 12:00 – 1:00pm, and focuses on a different aspect of panto performance.
Day 1 – Tuesday Kick off the week with comedy workshops and panto script work, exploring comic timing, character and storytelling as you begin bringing scenes to life with comedy masters Callum and Kevin.
Day 2 – Wednesday Find your voice as Dan leads you gently through singing and dance sessions, combining movement and music to create lively, engaging performance moments.
Day 3 – Thursday Focus on acting skills with Kevin and spend the afternoon in sharing preparation, pulling together everything learned so far and rehearsing as an ensemble.
Day 4 – Friday The final day brings everything together with rehearsals, a technical run, and a celebratory sharing to parents – a chance to showcase the week’s work on stage.
A Supportive, Creative Experience
Throughout the week, participants will work closely with Callum, Kevin and Dan, gaining insight into performance techniques while enjoying the playful spirit that makes panto unique. No previous theatrical experience is required. The camp encourages teamwork, imagination and confidence, all within a welcoming theatre environment.
