We hope that everyone can enjoy the experience of live theatre and therefore take the issues of accessibility very seriously.

Chequer Mead offers level access to the front and throughout the building and disabled facilities. Regretfully our first-floor theatre circle seats are only accessible via stairs.

Essential Companion Scheme

Chequer Mead Theatre offers an Essential Companion Scheme. This scheme is designed to ensure all visitors to the theatre get the assistance they require and receive a carers companion ticket for their carer/companion. Please complete the form below and let us know how we can support you during your visit to the theatre, once submitted a member of the Box Office team will be in touch about your membership. Completed forms can be submitted online or completed in person at Box Office.

We remind all applicants that a carers companion ticket is intended for individuals whose access needs are so significant that they would be unable to attend the theatre without essential support. The purpose is to ensure that no one is excluded simply because they must also cover the cost of a companion’s ticket. Membership requires supporting documentation.

Essential Companion Scheme Form

Details will be held on Chequer Mead Theatre’s database so we can facilitate future bookings. Paper and electronic documentation will be destroyed and personal information treated as confidential.

Wheelchair Users

We have specific areas for optimum wheelchair access in the auditorium, so we ask that wheelchair users book in advance to enable us to allocate these seats as well as help you during your visit. The Box Office and Front of House staff are trained in accessibility and are on hand to answer any questions.

At present, wheelchair seats can only be booked with our Box Office, either over the phone or in person.

Visitors with Mobility Requirements

Chequer Mead has a list of recommended seats that might be better suited for those with mobility or access requirements. Talk to our Box Office team in advance and we can advise you on where is best for you. We advise you speak to a member of staff on the night to gain early access to the theatre.

Blind/ Partially Sighted Visitors

It is recommended those whose limited vision would make it difficult for them to leave the building in an emergency are accompanied by a companion.

Assistance Dogs

Dogs trained to assist people with disability are welcome throughout the building

Parking

There are 2 free disabled parking spaces in Chequer Mead Car Park (directly opposite the theatre) and 6 free disabled parking spaces in Vicarage Car Park both with wheelchair friendly access to the theatre.
