Chequer Mead opened in November 1996 and we’ve been providing popular entertainment and arts facilities ever since.

Chequer Mead Theatre is a registered charity and a vital community resource at the heart of East Grinstead, dedicated to enriching lives through access to the arts, culture and creative learning. Over the years, the theatre has grown into a vibrant hub of cultural activity, supporting both professional and amateur productions and welcoming local talent alongside touring companies.

As part of our charitable mission, we deliver a wide range of educational programmes and workshops throughout the year, work closely with local schools by hosting their annual performances, and provide affordable spaces for creativity and wellbeing. Our on-site studios are available for hire and are widely used for rehearsals,
