Permanent position 3-5 days per week, Saturdays essential
Rate of pay: £13.50 per hour
Additional hours: Opportunity for Sunday overtime when the theatre is open.
We’re looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and reliable Senior Barista & Catering Assistant to join our team at The Apron.
This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who loves great coffee, enjoys working in a busy food and hospitality environment and is confident taking responsibility for a team and the smooth running of a shift.
A key part of the role will be taking the lead on Saturdays, acting as the senior team member on shift and helping to supervise the team to ensure everything runs smoothly. You’ll also need to be happy to turn your hand to the kitchen when required, supporting the wider team wherever you’re needed.

Previous supervisory experience would be a real advantage.

You’ll be joining a friendly, busy and welcoming team in a unique theatre and hospitality environment. No two days are quite the same, with a varied programme of theatre events, music, private functions and café service.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, likes taking ownership and wants to play an important role in the day-to-day running of The Apron.

About The Apron and Chequer Mead
The Apron is Chequer Mead’s welcoming café, casual dining and bar space, serving both the local community and theatre visitors. Our menus offer a varied selection of food and drink to suit a range of tastes and occasions.
As part of a busy theatre venue, The Apron has a varied and lively atmosphere, serving customers throughout the day before transforming into a busy bar supporting the theatre’s evening performances and events. We also host occasional live music events and have a lovely courtyard garden which is particularly popular during the summer months.
The Role
We’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic and reliable Bar Staff and Baristas to join our flexible team at The Apron.
Working on a zero-hours basis, this is a great opportunity for someone looking for flexible hospitality work, with shifts available across our daytime café, evening theatre bar and private events.
No two shifts are quite the same! You could be making coffees and serving customers during the day, serving drinks to theatre audiences in the evening or helping with a private function or catered event.

Chequer Mead is a charity at the heart of our community. For 30 years, our theatre and community hub have provided a welcoming place for people to experience live entertainment, take part in activities, meet others and enjoy a vibrant community venue. We are proud of the role Chequer Mead plays in bringing people together and creating opportunities for participation, creativity and connection.
After three decades, however, our building and infrastructure are increasingly in need of investment and enhancement. We want to ensure that Chequer Mead remains a welcoming, accessible, sustainable and fit-for-purpose venue for the next 30 years and beyond. To achieve this, we need to strengthen our fundraising and develop new sources of income and support.
We are therefore looking for volunteer fundraisers with proven experience and a track record of success in one or more of the following areas:
We are looking for self-starters who are able to work independently, take the initiative and manage their own activities, with support from the Chequer Mead team where appropriate. The role will typically be undertaken remotely from home, with occasional meetings or visits to Chequer Mead as required. Volunteers should therefore be comfortable working independently and have access to their own laptop and internet connection.
You don’t need experience in every area. We are looking for people who can bring expertise, ideas, contacts and a demonstrable track record in one or more areas and who are passionate about helping to secure the future of this important community charity.
